WHISTLEBLOWER PROTECTION

Project HOPE is committed to complying with all applicable laws and practices.  The legal protection provided by this Whistleblower policy applies to all employees and contractors.  You are strongly encouraged to report anyone suspected of fraud or corrupt conduct or any other form of inappropriate behavior.

Definition of Whistleblower
A supervisor, department head, employee, or contractor of Project HOPE who wishes to report conduct they believe is in breach of our “Code of Conduct” or in breach of the law and where the individual perceives a need to avail themselves of protection against reprisal for having made the report. A whistleblower may or may not elect to remain anonymous.

What to Report
Any suspected fraud, corrupt conduct, inappropriate behavior, or illegal activity involving Project HOPE or its employees in any way.  These concerns must have some reasonable foundation for being raised and should include:

  • The name and contact information of the reporting party (reports may be made anonymously, but individuals who make such reports should recognize the limits that are inherent in investigating anonymous reports).

  • A description of the nature of the improper activity, with sufficient detail to enable an initial investigation.

  • The name(s) of the employee(s) or other individual(s) engaging in the activity or with knowledge of the activity.

  • Actual or approximate dates that the activity took place.

Who to Report To

Reports may be made to your supervisor, the Board Chair, the Executive Director, or to Human Resources.  Reports may be made in person or by phone, letter, or email. The Employee Hotline is also available (888) 412-3447.

Confidentiality
In addition to our legal obligations, Project HOPE extends its assurance of confidentiality to all other matters.  All information received in respect of other reportable conduct will be held in strictest confidence and, where clearly desired by the individual, the identity of the person will not be disclosed without permission.

Investigation
The Executive Director, Board, or persons designated by them will investigate all reports promptly and appropriately.  In this regard Project HOPE will assume no wrongdoing on the part of any party during the investigation.  Where any wrongdoing is uncovered, Project HOPE or its governing body will take appropriate action.
